Review of "England against the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies" Erminio De Biase

In recent years the investigations on the fall of the Bourbon kingdom has grown a lot and, since the days of Charles Alianiello , Silvio Vitale and Angelo Manna, a long path has been accomplished, at least from the standpoint of the spread of certain truths which, until the 50s of XX century past, they were well hidden in the drawers. From those noble fathers the Southerner is a long series of researchers spent whole years to find and consult public and private archives in Italy and abroad. Research has often pointed to certify that the conditions of the Two Sicilies, although they were not from the third industrial power in the world, were higher than the standard age to overturn the official historiography. Or have sought jobs on the cards of brigandage to show how oppressive, illiberal and machine set in motion the criminal occupiers against Piedmont conquered southern populations in the years 1860 to 1861. Erminio De Biase, Naples Doc, knows the importance of historical research. As evidenced by his latest work "Memoirs of a former chief bandit " diary of Ludwig Richard Zimmermann, a member of the controversial band Chiavone (typographic art publishing, Naples, 2010), Research on the sources of the first level is essential. However it is not on the statements of Zimmermann that I stop today, but on earlier work by De Biase, which has deepened another hot topic at this time of elation for the celebrations of 150 years of so-called unification of Italy. We are talking about de "England against the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies - Live and Let Die" (Upstream, Naples, 2002). The text, dating back nine years ago shows an eternal present, a good narrative structure and excellent work of archival research. Erminio De Biase are not limited to "easy" Bourbon Archives, State Archives and Historical Archive Napoli Banco di Napoli Milan but reached for consultation of the Civic historical collections of the Museum of the Risorgimento and had no hesitation to refer to the Guildhall Library and the Public Record Office in London el'Oesterreichesstaatsarchiv - Haus, Hof Und Staatarchiv Vienna. The result of this research effort has been opened up a new glimpse of those famous hidden truths previously reported. The decision to call each chapter with one of the titles of the James Bond film is original and at the same time, offers a glimpse on the theme throughout the text. "Diamonds Are Forever" prefigures the image of the corruption of officers and officials who were required to disrupt the structure of state of the United as "Her Majesty's Secret Service" need to understand how important was the work intelligence served to prepare the ground for the expedition of Garibaldi, the first step of the fall of the Bourbons of Naples. Interesting "Operation Octopus" where there is the story of the incriminating and defamatory left London at the time of Ferdinand II and orchestrated by the Minister Palmerston and Gladstone Ambassador. "England against the realm of Two Sicilies, "a book to which they are attached, a text that can shed light on an event which the Italian state authorities do not want to clarify. "Strangely," the British have today (see Protestantism night broadcast TV) the great role played by Britain to support Garibaldi and Piedmont, while March 17 Giorgio Napolitano celebrate, forgetting Palmerston, Temple, Gladstone and Mundy the heroes (sic) Garibaldi, Mazzini, Cavour and Vittorio Emanuele II.
Good reading.
