How can someone be called children of God and what that means?
reading of St. Paul to the Galatians says Brothers: When the fullness of time God sent forth his Son, born of woman, born under law, to redeem those who were under the law, to make us his children.
When the fullness of time, ie when historical conditions were in the maturity to undertake the project that God's saving. And not only that. Jesus himself lives in his person the awareness that he is a criterion for the organization of time. With her birth, but especially with his testimony, introduces a new vision of the story, accepting that her history, not mere chronology of events and phenomena that happen, but the relationship that some people establish with others, often in the sense of domination, extending even to violence and murder. So there is a clear reason why the Book of Revelation refers to Jesus with powerful clarity:
I'll arrive soon, and I carry with me the salary to give every man according to his work. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End Blessed are those who wash their robes because that will have access to the tree of life and will open the gates of the city. Outside dogs and sorcerers and the immoral, the murderers, the idolaters and everyone who loves and practices falsehood. I Jesus have sent my angel to tell you what is referred to the churches. I am the root and the descendant of David, the star shining in the morning. " (22.12 to 16).
Therefore, Jesus, Lord of history, brings a new vision of history and interpersonal relations and anyone who tries to be called Christian is called to be faithful to that vision preached by Jesus.
The new vision of history is being preached by Jesus and establish whether we consider the second part of the fragment of the text of the book of Galatians that we are considering:
God sent his Son , born of woman, born under law, to redeem those who were under the law, to make us his children.
If you read the text carefully you will notice that distinguishes between biological parentage is clear from every human being born of a woman and the divine filiation which is a consequence not a biological inheritance but the implementation of the fundamental principles governing the testimony of Jesus in history. So, if Jesus was born under the law, ie, as her mother is subject to existing laws and social structures of his time, this means, first, that to be rescued from the domination imposed by unjust laws and a specific social structures, the need for involvement in the historical. Thus the incarnation of Jesus is not apparent, but real, and realism as possible to save his people from the domination of the corrupt. He wants to be a man born of woman to feel what it feels to be the subject of injustice and thus have the knowledge necessary to redeem those who were under the law. And all this with a very clear purpose: to make us children of God. Hence, superficial people who think that being a child of God is something romantic, because strictly speaking means involvement in the historical facts to know and to transform them from freedom and liberty. As a result, the motherhood of Mary is programmatic, responsible, serious, in that it is her that is entrusted to educate Jesus to be a deliverer of his people and not a more dominant as those that existed at the time of incarnation.
There are other biblical texts that reinforce this view of responsible motherhood of Mary and Jesus' liberating mission developed.
I raise that text which says that seeing a woman that Jesus preached so beautiful and so so strong, she said, referring to the Virgin Mary: - Blessed is the womb that bore you and the breasts that you sucked! But he said: - Best: Blessed are those who hear the word of God and do it! is, a biological motherhood thing, that you're breastfeeding, that of giving birth to a child and quite another to responsible motherhood that educates for freedom.
But Luke's Gospel say Then they started arguing about who among them was the most important. [25]. Jesus said: "The kings of nations govern as owners, and that oppress them call themselves Benefactors.. [26] Not so among you. On the contrary, the greatest among you must behave as if the last, and the boss, like a servant.. [27] For who is greater, the one on the table or you are serving? He who is sitting, of course. And yet I I am among you as who serves.
Therefore, an essential feature of those who hear the word is service, which is firmly opposed to any behavior and gifts demagogic concerned that too often and make brazen politicians during election campaigns. Is not good for people to master, but to liberate them from their sufferings. By implication, then, anyone who cheats the poor with gifts to dominate his consciousness is contrary to the principle of freedom and, therefore, betrays the founding principles of Christianity.
In the case of Mary, she has first understood the provision of service to others, help your pregnancy to your cousin Elizabeth, mother of John the Baptist, at the wedding in Cana helps couples who have lost wine and begs his son to do the same, is at the time that gives the key to their condition and model disciple of the Church when he says: Do whatever he tells them . Mary is thus a model of the servant Church and Samaritan, always ready to help those who suffer and are marginalized from history
I think at this point we can better understand the consequences that follow the text we are considering: Because you are children, God sent forth their hearts the Spirit of his Son, crying " Abba !", That is, Father! So you are no longer a servant, but a son, and the son, you're also an heir through God.
The legacy of the speech here is not biological, in line physically resemble another person or materials, in line to receive tangible property of another person. The legacy of that deal is to give historical continuity our actions to the project initiated by Jesus Christ, a project of preaching the Gospel, to celebrate life and the mysteries of faith, witness of love in charity.
What conclusion we draw for our life today?
We (Edy's father, pastor and me), we speak in our preaching in a parish and servant Samaritan. Try to give some features of the draft parish
1. Servant . By way of objection we do not intend to build upon the good will and faith of you. This means that from us ever expect to lead them to follow this or that politician, this leads us to keep solvent the Christian ethic of our movements of the apostolate and pastoral areas, our mission is not manipulation of consciences, but their release . In summary, this parish is not for sale. On the positive means that the gospel does not need godfathers rigged, she is sustained by its own strength. All you need is the true testimony and generous of you, here we take seriously what the evangelist St. Matthew must not be so among you, but whoever among you wants to become great must be your servant.
2. orderly and systematic. this parish members are convinced that the mission kills improvisation. The process of evangelization, so that it can produce positive effects, you should schedule it does. In this sense, we bet a plurality of expressions to the internal of the Catholic faith. We respect the charisma of each of the apostolic movements and support the projects of each of the areas of pastoral care. There may be whole parishes and dioceses that do not program what they do, they have not defined what they will do in 2011, but here we do not have that luxury, because we consider it an insult and an act of cynicism against the dignity of you. We follow the model of the Good Samaritan, who first meets the immediate need has been injured by the assailants, but then supports them in their recovery process to see it fully integrated into life and we do not pity, but covered in principle of mercy.
3. Well formed. Since the corruption of institutions proliferate there where ignorance abounds, us struggle with an ongoing process of training ranging from basic evangelization, catechesis and very normal training by movements apostolate to higher education, in partnership with Catholic universities. A well-formed community is not subject to manipulation, but rather directs its members to more levels high freedom and spirituality.
4. evangelized and evangelizing. A parish does not evangelize, has no future. It's a boring church whose pastors are preaching as the only recourse the scolding, moralizing discourse, cloying and repetitive, as well as imposing an apocalyptic fear. A permanent mission parish is innovative, using the media correctly and at the service of evangelization and human promotion.
5. Beside the poor and committed to the historical transformation. believe that the evil that we are victims, corruption, injustice, violence ... economic models is a consequence of predators and wild capitalism and anti-solidarity. But we are aware that all this evil germinates and reproduces in the environments of indifference, lack of commitment to social transformation. Therefore, we as Christians are not here to see the evil that plagues the world, but to fight with all our strength. Consequently, all our initiatives, as a parish in front of the sheep and wolves shed imposed by the world is not fair, but partial, we are of the poor and victims that evil is generating, is one of our priorities and we happy to do so. Not communicate with the sadistic spectacle to which we are accustomed circus owners policy and malicious come the gangsters. We produce nausea pastors being dragged behind the economic favors from these deplorable people. This model servile Church is neither credible nor respectable and has nothing to do with the purposes of peace and justice that Jesus preached.
As you may notice, we intend to build a church and demanding in its principles in their projects. If you resonate with this vision of parish we urge you to participate in the process and if accepted will be happy about it. For those already integrated encourage them to persevere and bring more of their generosity.
conclude with n. 11 of the document of Aparecida:
The Church is called to deeply rethink and relaunch with fidelity and courage its mission in the new circumstances in Latin America and the world. Can not retreat in front to those who see only confusion, danger and threats, or those who seek to cover the variety and complexity of situations with a layer or worn ideologisms irresponsible attacks. This is to confirm, renew and revitalize the newness of the Gospel rooted in our history, from a personal and communal encounter with Jesus Christ, to inspire disciples and missionaries. It depends less on major programs and structures, but new men and women who embody that tradition and novelty, as disciples of Jesus Christ and missionaries of his kingdom, stars of new life for a Latin America that wants to be recognized with the light and strength the Spirit.
